West End Park Neighborhood Clean-Up Day

Spring Clean-Up Day and Barbecue, Saturday, April 16, 2005
Thanks to everyone who participated in our second neighborhood clean-up day and barbecue! The teams collected approximately 15 bags of trash from the streets, sidewalks and alleys. Although we picked up a lot of trash, we were pleased to note that the neighborhood wasn't nearly as difficult to clean this time. This is partly due to the great job everyone did cleaning it up in the fall, as well as the new and improved trash cans Metro provided us in January.

Below are some pictures from the barbecue celebration in the Burns Avenue Greenspace after the clean-up. We had a wonderful time enjoying the sunshine, eating delicious food and just chatting with our neighbors. Click the image to see a larger version.

Fall Clean-Up Day and Barbecue, Saturday, October 9, 2004
On October 9, we held our first Neighborhood Clean-Up Day. We started the morning with doughnuts and coffee, and then three teams spent almost three hours cleaning up trash along the sidewalks, streets and alleys between Acklen Park Drive and 31st Avenue North. To celebrate, we had a delicious cookout at Patti & Lynette's home on Belwood, including grilled hot dogs, homemade salsa, cold beverages and pound cake. Because the event was such a success, we plan to do it twice a year -- once in early spring and again in the fall. With more volunteers, we can expand our clean up all the way to Murphy/I-440 and to the park. Not all of our volunteers could do physical labor, but we welcomed contributions of food and logistical support.
