New Developments

The Courts at Parthenon
The new development in construction at the bend of Parthenon Avenue will include three duplexes and a single-family home. It is one of the first approved projects under the urban design overlay for our neighborhood. (To download a PDF file of the UDO, click here.) The overlay regulates features like height, distance from the street, building materials, orientation and parking location. According to Keith Covington of Metro Planning Department, the urban design overall is an “incorporation of design standards” that creates a “harmonious streetscape,” compatibility of use and tools like walkways that help residents take advantage of amenities like access to the area, proximity to Vanderbilt and parks.

For the Courts at Parthenon, builders are using split-face block, a type of textured masonry unit that mimics stone, architect and development partner Michael Marchetti said. Using modern materials, builders want to create an older look dating to about 70 years ago, Marchetti said.

The buildings will be two stories, the duplex units at 1,200 square feet each and the single-family home at 1,700 square feet, contractor Bill Dixon said. Workers with his group, the Lebanon-based Dixon Construction and Development, will finish construction in late August or early September.
